About Tara
Thirty years of experience have shaped not only how Tara creates beautiful hair, but how she cares for the person wearing it.
The woman behind Shear Envy
It is knowing what to notice, what to ask, and how to translate a client’s vision into hair that feels entirely their own.
I’m Tara Carrano, founder of Shear Envy, a licensed stylist, colorist, and educator with 30 years in the professional beauty industry.
I began Shear Envy as a mobile business before opening my own brick-and-mortar salon. When the industry changed during COVID, I chose a more personal model: working independently within a collaborative salon space. That decision gave me the freedom to focus on what matters most to me—my clients, my craft, and the quality of every appointment.

Beyond the salon
As a former Color Ambassador and educator for the Z.One Concept Education Network, Tara taught professional color and product knowledge throughout Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.
Her work has included hairstyling for an MTV reality production and serving as the hairstyling department head for a Universal Studios movie.
Tara has been interviewed by the Professional Beauty Association, published within the industry, and has long advocated for the value and professionalism of licensed beauty professionals.
Where science meets artistry
Before fully committing to the beauty industry, Tara studied Nuclear Medicine. That scientific background still informs her approach to hair color today.
She considers formulation, underlying pigment, condition, texture, and previous chemical history—not simply the photograph a client brings in. The goal is a beautiful result that respects both the vision and the integrity of the hair.
At Shear Envy, expertise never replaces listening. It makes the consultation more thoughtful, the plan more realistic, and the finished result more personal.
The Shear Envy approach

Intention in every detail.
